New picture-in-picture displays are cool and the redesigned menus are welcome. Lacking offering of modes is a real bummer.

Great player details and a solid framerate highlight an impressive package. Animations could be more free-flowing despite looking good.

Soundtrack is serviceable, announcers could be livelier and the effects on the ice could be toned down just a hair to bring them closer to reality.

Offense can be a bit mindless and everything feels like it’s moving too slowly, even when you mess with the sliders. AI still needs work despite improvements.
6.5 Lasting Appeal
A total lack of new material won’t keep you playing for long. The new online accessibility helps, but the lingering issues from last year will likely frustrate many.
