It’s hard to grade 15-year-old graphics today, because you don’t expect an Xbox Live Arcade title—especially a classic PC game—to push the envelope. And it doesn’t, but it’s still fun.


AUDIO: 8,0
Repeat the same statement above for Graphics, but replace “graphics” with “audio.” ’Nuff said.

LONGEVITY: 9,2
The single-player game’s four episodes, especially in Nightmare mode, will keep you busy, but the multiplayer portion can be played forever.

INNOVATION: 8,9
At the time this was released, it blew people’s minds and nearly everyone played it. The innovation doesn’t hold a candle to today’s games, but it carries over nicely as an Arcade title.

8.0 Presentation
Simple, quick and easy. Nothing special here except the game's extreme efficiency. We like it.

7.0 Graphics
Enter the world of rotating 2D SPRITES! And really old pixeled textures. These graphics have aged, no doubt, but they're good in the classic B movie way. Old, bad, yet likeable.

8.0 Sound
The creepy haunted mansion-style music still holds up beautifully. The sound effects are also still brilliant.

8.0 Gameplay
Monster closets abound! But at least these are the original monster closets, with superb level design and tons of secrets to make it all feel right. Good framerates offline, but rough when online.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
This will get old, but not nearly as fast as other XBLA games. The off- and online co-op and multplayer options make this worth the $10 a couple times over.
